Objetivo: estimar o nível de conhecimento sobre asma de servidores técnico-administrativos do curso de graduação e pós-graduação em Enfermagem de uma universidade pública em Salvador, Bahia. Método: estudo transversal, realizado com 18 servidores técnico-administrativos de uma universidade pública. A coleta de dados foi realizada mediante envio de e-mail com links do formulário no Google Forms, entre janeiro e maio de 2021. Os dados foram analisados por meio da estatística descritiva com uso do software SPSS, 28.0. Resultados: encontrou-se predominância do sexo feminino 77,8% (n=14), média de idade 42,11±10,98 anos. Verificou-se que 55,6% (n=10) da amostra apresentou conhecimento insatisfatório sobre asma na análise por domínio e pela média de acertos (X±DP=22,6±7,5 acertos). O tratamento da asma foi a temática mais desconhecida pela amostra (X±DP=2,77±1,73 acertos). Conclusão: o nível de conhecimento sobre asma dos servidores técnico-administrativos foi insatisfatório na maioria da amostra investigada.

El tratamiento del asma fue la temática más desconocida por la muestra (X±DE=2,77±1,73 aciertos). Consideraciones finales: el nivel de conocimiento sobre asma de los servidores técnico-administrativos fue insatisfactorio en la mayoría de la muestra investigada.

Data collection was performed by sending an email with links to the form in Google Forms, between January and May 2021. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics using SPSS software, 28.0. Results: predominance of women, 77.8% (n=14), mean age 42.11±10.98 years. 55.6% (n=10) of the sample presented unsatisfactory knowledge about asthma in the analysis by domain and by the average of correct answers (X±SD=22.6±7.5 correct answers). Asthma treatment was the most unknown theme in the sample (X±SD=2.77±1.73 correct answers). Final considerations: the level of knowledge about asthma of technical-administrative workers was unsatisfactory in the majority of the sample investigated.

OBJECTIVES: More than 16 000 graduate degrees in public health are awarded annually. Yet only 14% of the governmental public health workforce has formal public health training of any kind, and 8% has a master of public health (MPH) degree. We characterized the differences among governmental staff members with master's degrees across US health departments. METHODS: We used data from the 2017 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey, a national survey of state and local public health departments (43 669 responses; response rate, 48%). We examined the characteristics of the workforce by educational attainment and compared respondents who had obtained a "terminal" (ie, highest degree obtained) MPH degree with respondents who had obtained a terminal non-public health (non-PH) master's degree. RESULTS: Respondents who had a non-PH master's degree were as likely as respondents who had an MPH degree to hold a supervisory role (43% vs 41%; P = .67). We found only 1 significant difference between the 2 groups: respondents aged ≤40 with a terminal MPH degree were significantly less likely than respondents aged ≤40 with a non-PH master's degree to earn more than the national average salary (adjusted odds ratio = 0.67; 95% CI, 0.47-0.97; P = .03). CONCLUSIONS: We found only marginal differences in career outcomes for people working in governmental public health who had a terminal MPH degree vs a terminal non-PH master's degree. This finding does not necessitate a full reconsideration of the MPH as it relates to governmental public health practice but a greater recognition that there are multiple paths into practice.

Resumo Introdução: a informatização do processo judicial levantou questionamentos sobre as implicações dessa mudança no trabalho dos servidores do Judiciário. Objetivo: compreender as implicações da implementação do Processo Judicial Eletrônico na atividade e na qualificação de servidores da Justiça do Trabalho. Métodos: utilizou-se do referencial teórico da ergologia. Na perspectiva da pesquisa qualitativa, foram entrevistados 14 servidores de um Tribunal Regional do Trabalho, atendendo aos critérios de saturação e singularidade do discurso. As entrevistas foram realizadas entre 2014 e 2015, e analisadas em seu conteúdo na forma construtiva interpretativa. Discutiram-se os sentidos do trabalho, o trabalho prescrito e as representações dos trabalhadores sobre a implementação da nova tecnologia e sobre as qualificações e competências necessárias ao seu uso. Resultados: destacou-se o desconforto com a ausência de consulta prévia e com o treinamento insuficiente para o uso da ferramenta, uma vez que há exigências de novas qualificações. Evidenciou-se também um sentimento de aumento da demanda, associado ao alto envolvimento e comprometimento com o trabalho. Conclusão: considerando os custos pessoais e sociais acarretados por mudanças tecnológicas, em particular as demandas impostas aos trabalhadores e a necessidade de novas capacitações, a implementação de novas tecnologias deve ser sempre avaliada do ponto de vista de quem as utiliza.


Abstract Introduction: computerization of judicial processes raised questions on its implications on the Judiciary officials' work. Objective: to understand the implications of the e-Filling implementation on the Labor Justice officials' activities and training. Methods: theoretical framework based on ergology. From the perspective of qualitative research, 14 officials from a Regional Labor Court were interviewed, between 2014 and 2015, considering the criteria of saturation and uniqueness of speech. Constructive and interpretative content analysis was carried out. The following categories were defined for discussion: the meaning of work; prescribed work; workers' understanding on the implementation of the new technology and on the competences and skills required for its use. Results: since new skills were required, the discomfort resulting from lack of prior consultation and insufficient training on how to use the tool were highlighted. A feeling of increased demand associated with high involvement and commitment to the work was also perceived. Conclusion: considering the personal and social costs resulting from technological changes, particularly the demands imposed on workers and the need for new training programs, the implementation of new technologies must be assessed from the point of view of those who employ them.

BACKGROUND: Sickness absence, work disability associated with illness or injury, is a major public health problem worldwide. Some studies have investigated determinants of sickness absence among workers with shorter job tenure, but have only focused on certain diagnostic groups. Although it is well established that job tenure has an inverse relationship with work injury rate, less is known about its association with sickness absence for other disorders. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the risk factors for incidence and duration of sickness absence according to diagnosis over a 7-year period. A dynamic cohort consisting of all permanent civil servants hired from 2005 to 2011 by the Goiania municipality-Brazil. Data of certified sickness absences longer than 3 days were analyzed. The incidence density was calculated per 1000 person-years in each ICD-10 category. The association between sickness absence and socio-demographic and occupational characteristics was examined using negative binomial regression models. RESULTS: 18,450 workers, mean age of 32 years, accumulated 14,909 episodes of sickness absence. Overall, the incidence density was 234.6 episodes per 1000 person years. Diagnostic groups with the highest incidence density of sickness absences were injuries (49.1), musculoskeletal disorders (31.3) and mental disorders (29.2). Factors predicting any sickness absence were female gender, older age, low education, being a health professional, multiple jobs and full-time employment. Mental health disorders were more common among education professionals, musculoskeletal disorders among blue collar workers and injuries among inspection workers. Prolonged time on sick leave was associated with male gender, older age groups, low education and income, blue-collar workers, more than one job contract and full time employment. CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate a substantial sickness absentee burden and they provide relevant information for targeting prevention and health promotion policies to the most vulnerable occupational groups.

BACKGROUND: While there is increasing support for training youth-serving providers in trauma-informed care (TIC) as a means of addressing high prevalence of U.S. childhood trauma, we know little about the effects of TIC training on organizational culture and providers' professional quality of life. This mixed-methods study evaluated changes in organizational- and provider-level factors following participation in a citywide TIC training. METHODS: Government workers and nonprofit professionals (N = 90) who participated in a nine-month citywide TIC training completed a survey before and after the training to assess organizational culture and professional quality of life. Survey data were analyzed using multiple regression analyses. A subset of participants (n = 16) was interviewed using a semi-structured format, and themes related to organizational and provider factors were identified using qualitative methods. RESULTS: Analysis of survey data indicated significant improvements in participants' organizational culture and professional satisfaction at training completion. Participants' perceptions of their own burnout and secondary traumatic stress also increased. Four themes emerged from analysis of the interview data, including "Implementation of more flexible, less-punitive policies towards clients," "Adoption of trauma-informed workplace design," "Heightened awareness of own traumatic stress and need for self-care," and "Greater sense of camaraderie and empathy for colleagues." CONCLUSION: Use of a mixed-methods approach provided a nuanced understanding of the impact of TIC training and suggested potential benefits of the training on organizational and provider-level factors associated with implementation of trauma-informed policies and practices. Future trainings should explicitly address organizational factors such as safety climate and morale, managerial support, teamwork climate and collaboration, and individual factors including providers' compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress, to better support TIC implementation.

RESUMO

Neste artigo, pretendemos refletir sobre as ações de formação e desenvolvimento de competências profissionais no contexto do serviço público federal. Para nos auxiliar nesse debate, nos utilizamos das perspectivas de pensar o trabalho como atividade, com base na ergologia, na ergonomia da atividade e na clínica da atividade, no intuito de afirmar que, para (des)envolver pessoas no trabalho, é preciso considerar não só as normas prescritas dele, mas também as estratégias que o próprio trabalhador desenvolve para lidar com os imprevistos que atravessam a situação de trabalho e que, muitas vezes, não são visíveis ou registradas. Acreditamos que desconsiderar a experiência de trabalho nas ações de formação pode gerar equívocos na gestão de políticas de desenvolvimento de pessoas. Como forma de ilustrar nossa discussão, apresentamos o relato de trabalho de formação com grupo de servidores técnico-administrativos de escola federal do Rio de Janeiro, baseado nos dispositivos denominados Encontros sobre o Trabalho.


In this article we intend to reflect on the actions concerning education and development of professional competencies in the context of federal civil service. To assist in this discussion, the perspective of labor as activity was used, based on ergology, activity ergonomy, and activity clinic, intending to state that in order to develop/involve people in work is necessary to consider not only its prescribed rules, but also the strategies the worker develops to handle unforeseen work situations that, multiple times, are not seen or registered. We believe that to disregard work experience in educational actions may create errors in people development policies management. To illustrate this discussion we present the education work report of a group of technical-administrative servers of Rio de Janeiro federal school, based on the devices named Meetings about Work.
